VENUES in Cheltenham have been going back in time as they have been the
locations for a popular BBC TV series.
The daytime mystery drama series Father Brown has been filming scenes for its
third series at the Everyman Theatre for two days and yesterday the filming
moved to Pittville Pump Room.
Unit manager for the BBC Birmingham production, Matthew Venables
said: “We’re based in Blockley and we’re not able to go too far.
“We needed a theatre set for two days filming and the Everyman
theatre is the
nicest, closest theatre that was available in August.
“It is a very nice auditorium as well, so the aesthetics
are right.”
The series is based on the Father Brown novels by GK Chesterton, but the setting has been moved from the turn of the last century to the 1950s. Matthew added: “We are filming in Pittville Pump Room standing in for the foyer of the theatre as that’s too modern looking. “We did exteriors at the Everyman on Wednesday and interiors
on Thursday so the production wasn’t affected by the rain and it’s all gone very well.
The show stars Fast Show and Harry Potter actor Mark
Williams as the priestly sleuth of the title and Holby City regular and Strictly Come Dancing winner Tom Chambers. Many of the productions support vehicles, accommodation for the actors, costume department, make up, catering and administration have been based at the Whaddon Road ground of Cheltenham Town Football Club. The new series will be shown on BBC1 in February.
The Everyman Theatre‘s box office and cafe
are still open but the next
productions will be Bless Em All and New
jersey Nights which both open in the
main theatre on September
10.
